Prevention

Here at Dakota Pet Hospital we strive to prevent disease before it has a chance to happen. Disease prevention begins with an annual physical exam. We also recommend routine blood screenings such as heartworm tests. Urine and stool samples are another tool used for detecting illness in cats and dogs.

It is very important to have your pets teeth looked at during your annual physical exam to determine if a routine dental procedure would be beneficial to keeping your pet healthy. Brushing your pets teeth can also help prevent gum disease and bad breath.

Did you know that heartworm can be transmitted through just one mosquito? To prevent heartworm disease we highly recommend using Heartgard plus once a month, it also aides in the prevention of some intestinal parasites. Frontline Plus is also an important part of keeping your pet healthy. Applying frontline once a month will keep the fleas away and kill the ticks that may carry disease.
